We Need Help With Our Front Facade!

Moxie on Oct 11, 2014I would add a porch type roof with columns and pavers at ground level that has architectural interest (perhaps arched design) and add some serious color to the door - this would also keep rain water out of the door way entry which could only be a plusHelpful Reply

The Chirping Frog on Oct 12, 2014Do a Pergola that will incorporate the front door.....that would be the focal point and it wouldn't be so noticeable that the door is shorter than ground level..... have it run from just left of the front door to right before the window on the right... (you could also incorporate the window on the bottom right....that'd look really nice but block your view out the window somewhat.) Plant a beautiful vine to grow up it and enjoy. You could make it as wide as you wanted.... just enough to cover the stairs down to the door and across or deep enough to have a seating area underneath.Helpful Reply

Regina on Oct 13, 2014Hi: I would suggest landscape..Some small shrubs on either side of the door and plants around the front of the foundation. Plus, perhaps shutters around the window. You can use any color..maybe a vibrant yellow and the door a red or also yellow. You have a great blank slate to work with. That's just for starters. Then you continue with a walkway of paving stones and more landscaping. Good luck and please keep us postedHelpful Reply

Dwin Dykema on Oct 14, 2014@MelodyJoy How about digging out the steps to a much larger area, like from window to window and create an inviting entry way. You can do so many beautiful things with bricks or stone. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/194006696423609426/ I would put a porch or pergola over that that went at least 1/2 way to the roof line. The height will affect the end result, you might want to make a little model to play with. Pillars and shutters would change the whole picture. Digging down could change the whole yard from blah to ahhh.Helpful Reply

Eleanor Medway on Sep 21, 2016I would paint the door in a color and add some shutters to the windows. Maybe you could find some shutters at a reuse-it store.Helpful Reply

Lori Patterson on Sep 25, 2016I would search the Internet for some ideas, a roofed in area over the door with a seating area, like an old fashioned porch would be awesome, but I think you'd lose the sunlight coming in the windows. I can see from the fallen leaves you live fairly north and that perhaps covering the windows with a roof, might just make it too gloomy in the front windows. It also depends on which direction this faces and what rooms lie behind those wonderful big windows.Helpful Reply
