Ice dispenser not working

by Debbie Reed
The dispenser in the door of my refrigerator does not work any more. The door to the shoot doesn't open releasing the ice. It just backs up in the shoot when you try to get ice from the door. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I recommend going to one of the repair sites online with the brand and model number and looking for the part to fix it.

Empty all of the ice and thaw out the ice maker. Could be frozen up inside.

Could there be a piece of ice stuck in there? I used to have an older side-by-side, and that happened quite often. I would have to open the freezer door, empty out the chute, then remove the piece of ice that was blocking the chute from opening.

This happened to my new frig. It was the module that was bad. The repairman said he orders two when he re-orders one because they go out so often. It is really frustrating to have a new frig. and have the electronic parts go out. I had to replace my ice maker in my new frig 7 times before we finally got one that worked. Don't like the stuff made in China one bit.

Barbara gave the most logical answer. We had the same issue, I wanted my husband to try and fix it - after a year without an icemaker, I called the appliance repair who said to empty the freezer and thaw out the ice maker. Once we did that, it started working fine. Waited a whole year for nothing!

My experience with mine was from using the crushed ice and it would get all frozen around it and stopped it up I just cleaned it all out and it works great
