Clever solution! Can you tell us how you did it?

Yes Miriam, it was not too hard. just pry the slats off the support boards and remove the old nails. Laid the boards flat to screw to slats to for a little more stability. Easier to drill pilot holes before screwing the slats down.I placed slats on the ends first to keep it square then mixed and matched the rest from the different pallets to get the spacing i wanted. I cut the slats to the length i needed. Most of the slats were easy the pry off but a few were a pain. Hope that helps you.

Another great idea for pallets! Hey Miriam, I think pallets need their own "special group" They have to be the most versatile item out there for a DYI'er

What a great idea. Are you treating them with anything?

Thistle, we are either going to use a water seal or stain. Haven't decided yet. I kind of like the pallet look.

I had this idea wasn't sure it would work. Now I'm convinced. Love it!

If you pick your pallets, some of them are made from oak and are beautiful wood. They do need to be treated someway, but they are very usable wood.

My husband has made ramps for my motorized chair for most of the outside doors of the houses we have lived in. They can be removed easily, too. We usually treat them with Thompson's water seal, but they are slick when wet, so we cover them with indoor/outdoor carpet. They will last for ...»

years. He even made a covered dome for our pool several years ago out of pallets and some discarded flooring. It was 10 ft tall X 42 ft X 32 ft. It was an ellipsoid dome. We covered it with 5 yr greenhouse plastic and it was nice looking and served us well as long as we lived there.

The pool didn't get dirt and leaves in it and it was warm in there year round with a space heater. I think it is very resourceful and wonderful.

I think Joey is being tacky. I think it is a great idea and if you read further you can see that he will treat them. Going green is in! Way to recycle!

Beautiful! We have redwood decks outback and a beautiful covered redwood porch in the front, They need to be treated and restrained as often, but I want to use this idea for the garden area next to the large shop. We have an acre to develop and yes, we have pallets!!

I love the idea, but they need to be treated beforehand. Living in the south, those termites attack the second wood is placed near the ground and the tropical moisture doesn’t help either But, I would LOVE to try this idea! Where did you get the pallets?

Patricia, I got the pallets at my local Home Depot.

Mr Samples, in this world of excess, the use of pallets is an example of outside the (flower) box thinking. Our community took pallets and made a fence and archway to a community garden that is helping to supply veggies to the local food pantry and giving garden space to those who don't have it. I applaud them and encourage all to look at things that we can re-use and recycle!! Great job. Keep up the good work!! Look for the positives in life, not the negatives, you will be happier and so will the people around you!! amy t

My husband got a whole bunch of "free" pallets 5 years ago and was going to sell them. They are stacked in 3 piles on the dirt out behind the shop. Now, THAT is tacky! I have been thinking about how to "use" them in our landscaping for a long time. So, of course, I love this idea!

I just want to know where everyone is getting pallets that you can get the boards off in one piece! Every time I try to pry one off, I end up shattering it because the nails will NOT come out. :(

Krista, I just try to pry one slat just enough to get the nail out. Or you can take a recipricating saw with a metal blade and cut them.
