I have a small vegi garden that is my hobby.. and sometimes lunch. the raccoons have been going after them HARD - i placed a 3ft fence (chicken wire) around, but still somehow they get in.
You might try a motion activated sprinkler such as the Scarecrow, http://www.contech-inc.com/products/scarecro.... I know if I was hit in the middle of the night with a noisy, cold water sprinkler I would haul.
