I'm new to this site, and decided to post pictures of the things that keep me busy .

I like to garden and love repurposing "anything", like the compass you'll see here that I made from an old concrete septic tank cover. Pics that follow are some of my outdoor projects: made a bottle tree, a fish pond, grew and dried birdhouse gourds, made raised gardens, painted an old bench, painted rug onto my deck, harvested 40' bamboo, cured them and made a trellis, made a peaceful walking/sitting area in the woods out back. I'm a DYI'er that began as a financial necessity and grew into a passion.......By the way, if you haven't talked to the great people at Four Season Nursery yet, or shopped for mulch, gravel and plants, you're missing an opportunity. They are knowledgeable and dependable. My husband just smiles at me and hates to leave me the truck...he knows I'm going there for a load of something.

I think we might be twin daughters of different mothers *wink*. Very like minded. Love your photos and your ideas. I am a bottle freak, as well. Where did you find the red triangular bottle? I've seen that shape in blue, but not red? Lovely yard!

HI Amy...revisiting your post. Still loving the bottles.I havent found any bottles of any color lately, where does one find them? But I got some colored vases. Do you think I could do something similar with them? They have wider mouths than bottles, just not sure how to secure them and to what? How would you go about it, or, what would you , in general , do with them?

    thanks. ...»

Oh, and what is the pretty little tree with pink flowers on it? Love it! Actually, I love it all!

@ Bernice H. - The pink flowers in the pot are a hibiscus tree that I purchased at Four Season Nursery. It's an annual......but I wintered it in my house and placed it outside again when the weather permitted and it's doing great. For the bottle trees, I'd stick with bottles rather than vases. You can always find them on ebay or craigslist. I'm also lucky enough to have wine drinkers in the neighborhood. I drive BIG nails in, to hold the bottles. Good Luck, have fun.

I'd love to know how you made the pond! We have 2 aquatic turtles that live outside in the summer and need a pond...right now they live in a black trough with rocks to ride under

Amy, I have an unsightly man hole cover in my backyard and would LOVE to copy your compass idea. Would you mind sharing a tutorial on how you did it? I want to learn so much from you, your property is beautiful!
