ugly hard wood floors

I pulled the carpet up to find hard wood floors. I would be so happy if they were nice, but first of all, they are very dirty..and second, sanding and re-doing the floors would be almost impossible due to my bad back. Its all I can do to try and scrub them to get them clean. What can I do or put on them to get them clean and then what can I do to make them look better?

Wouldn't recommend working on it with a bad back. Probably best to hire someone to do this.

We paid a person to sand and seal our floors and now they are beautiful. They will never be covered again.

We found the same problem with the master bedroom in my daughters house. Leaving the carpet was not an option due to allergies. I cleaned the floors with Murphys Oil Soap. Then I picked up a can of dark wood stain & poly all in one. I only needed one coat which still left some grain visible. It went so quickly, I'm sure you could sit to do it without hurting your back. It's not as bad as ripping up carpet or scrubbing (I have a back issue too). If the wood is damaged, a second coat could hide more. Of course, I also see people paint floors with a roller on Pinterest, using two colors or a stencil. Grab a friend & make them dinner for their labor, that always works for me!

@Sharon is it possible to post a picture, that sounds like something I'd like to do to my old floors but would love to see what it could look like first (and I'd have to convince hubs) thanks; I use a combo of equal parts vinegar and vegetable oil to clean/polish mine, put in spray bottle and spritz and they sure shine
