Stinging Caterpillars

Fall ushers in the season for stinging caterpillars. Many are familiar with the saddleback caterpillar but there are several others that will make you say very ugly words if you brush against one! I have pictures of several kinds at http://www.walterreeves.com/insects-and-anim...

Thanks for the warning Walter. They are really cool-looking bugs.

Thanks for the tips! My boys found an interesting-looking one in the back yard not too long ago and I wasn't sure if it was poisonous or not. Kept them away just in case.

I've been hit by the saddleback a few times. After running into the house to apply Caladryl, I went back out w/the hedge clippers and executed the caterpillar. I guess you could say I sought revenge.

My Passion Flower gets orange ones with black feet all over it. The first year I was freaked out, but now I just let them do their thing and have at the vines and then they turn into beautiful butterflies! Thanks for the info Walter.

Thanks Walter. I thought they were. They are pretty icky looking and I get so so many, but they are worth it once they turn into the butterflies.
