How about "wallies" they must have some with pots-pans-kitchen items.

Open shelving. It looks as if you are short on storage space. The shelves could keep your everyday dishes readily available and you could add a couple smaller scaled decorations on the shelves. Add some color. A smaller scaled area rug or a couple of accent rugs would be a great beginning.

I considered open shelving but I am worried about grease spatters from the stove. I haven't ruled it out completely. Thanks for the ideas!

@Raina Speaking from experience, I would 'not' put shelving over the stove. Accidents happen, things fall off onto the burners. WOOSH! I turned my empty space into hanging pot storage. Easy to grab, right there for cooking. Frees up your cabinet space for something else. You could do shelving on either side of the stove, tho. Use enamaled or smooth hard surface for easy washing from cooking splatters.

I would suggest open shelving with baskets to store items in and some colorful bowls, etc. Another thought would be pots/pan rack, maybe painting the wall an accent color, hanging artwork...

Paint that wall a different accent color such as the gray in the floor I would use glossy washable paint since its near the stove etc.. You could hang your iron skillets on it and or any kind of kitchen utensils maybe graters sifters memorriable stuff for looks like your grandmothers water dippers etc if you have anything like that... or if you run across any at thrift stores etc. I love the nostalgia theme

I would do open shelving to put all your spices and oils on so they are within easy reach while cooking. Paint the shelves to compliment your kitchen. If that isn't what you want get a large canvas (buy when they are half price) and paint a knife and fork on it or mod podge something on it that you like.

Open shelves and lots of them! Paint the entire wall behind the stove and refrigerator a nice cheery color. Measure the wall all the way across. Buy pretty shelf supports. Find decorative, preferably lined, baskets you love (that way you can wash the liners every few months). Measure the height of the baskets and put a deep shelf just shy of the ceiling to place these baskets (all the same size and type baskets) along this shelf. You could use pretty labels on each basket indicating the contents. Great for storing necessary but not used everyday items. Open shelving below that and put like colored items on each shelf. Don't forget to use cookbooks as "elevators" for items on the shelves. Put a tension rod at the top of the spice rack and use a stripe fabric that coordinates with your floor as a "curtain" to cover the open spice area. Use the same fabric or a coordinating fabric to cover the utility cart the microwave sits on. Move the toaster oven to the other counter top - the one with the spices in it. Put everything on top of the refrigerator in a decorative basket. Put cooking utensils on the stovetop for easy access. Remove all the visual clutter on the refrigerator. If a message center is necessary, make a chalk board and frame it and put it on another wall in your kitchen. Another neat idea is to tape off an area and put chalkboard paint directly on the wall. You could "paint" a frame around the chalkboard the color of the accent wall behind the stove just by tapeing approximately 2 inches all the way around the chalkboard paint. Don't forget to add some nice silk plants or better yet, put fresh flowers out once a week. Most of all, have fun and make it reflect who you are so that you enjoy being in your kitchen

@Raina Good luck. These tips are pretty easy and can be inexpensive. You can to Lowes or Home Depot and buy the shelf brackets or try Hobby Lobby, even antique stores have door embelishments that were used in the corners of doors that make beautiful shelf supports. You can buy wide boards (1 x 12s) and spray paint them for your shelves. I would use white against the colored wall to compliment your appliances. I'm glad you like my ideas. Looking forward to pics on your progress!

Hang up pans and utensils that have holes from a curtain rod

I would put a pretty backsplash from refrigerator to other end of wall - there are loads of ideas at Lowes or Home Depot. (not too expensive) Also, the open shelving would work nicely, except not over the stove-that is an accident waiting to happen. Have fun with this project - you have lots possibilities here.

Cupboards, cupboards, cupboards....Look on Craigslist.com. Lots of people get rid of old and all you would have to do is sand paint and put up. People also put up open shelving but then u see all the junk unless everything is always matched and perfect and then you're always cleaning the shelves. I would put an open cupboard above the stove to put your micro on and then a regular one up above that if you don't have the money for a wall micro. Then you have space for a cabinet next to your stove that gains u counter space. This can be done over time. Just need the space to store things as u do them.
