yeah i hear ya, the first iongen had some issues with the control panel but they worked out the bugs and the second generation works great. if you read the manual and set it accordingly to your pond and water specs then its really easy system to use. so easy you can even just drop the probes into the water of the biofalls. the fish only see negative side effects if you let the alkalinity drop below 100. i actually just came back from aquascapes head quarters from an annual training/ ...» -
I am a little disappointed with the UV so far. I am sad to say I believe I have purchased a dud on ebay. My husband said he was going to work a little more with the plumbing---he's going to try to introduce a little more water thru the by-pass to see if the water clears better. BTW, the water is not really green--this summer the water has been "more dark" vs. green. But I think in my mind it should be more clear (I feel like I should see the bottom). -
yes I couldn't agree more! my water was very dark almost tea colored. somedays if we had a few weeks of intense heat and no rain we would experience suspended algae (pea soup) but otherwise it's dark, can't see the fish water. -
We were in constant contact with the contractor tech department from Aquascape because that pond is our showcase so we felt it should look pristine. they responded saying that the whole country including themselves were have I g issues this year. hot dry weather. -
it wasn't until a few weeks ago we started getting good rain storms and a fall algae bloom started on our rocks in the waterfall that now our wateris clear as can be. just be persistent with the bacteria and there is only so much we can do to ba -
battle mother nature. your absolutely not alone on this issue. Fun Fact: if you have green rocks (string algae) you can't have pea soup (suspended algae). they eat the same nutrients and can't compete with one another :) -
I have been removing the algae manually. And have been using MicroLift PL and small barley bales. It is 4 months old. Suddenly it is clear as the first day. We have a bio filter and skimmer. -
what if you put a tree where the most sun hits it to provide shade? I also used this stuff I actually got from the jacuzzi company where it's all natural for people (which was the reason I bought it) and fish. I just put more than I was supposed to in my waterfall in the spring and since it's become a bird haven as well. I feel comfortable with it because it's safe for fish. But honestly, since my japanese maple has grown on the south side of the pond and provided shade, I think that's the main reason the algae has stopped -
It will probably be awhile before my trees are large enough to provide shade. One large river birch needs to come down--we planted it too close to the house. And boy does that tree lose leaves year round! -
Oh great, I just planted one 12 feet from the front door! -
Michelle, my experience has been that the roots also are pretty shallow. We have one sticking up right under the foundation. That scares me! it's going to come down for sure. -
We have part shade from a tree and 70% is covered with plants. -
Thank you Lyndi. I'm going to transplant it this fall to a farther location. There's no reason to have to cut it down in a few years when I can just move it now while it's still small. Oh, I just saw this today and thought you might get a kick out of it! http://www.addasphere.com/gallery/main.html -
The fish aren't trapped, the bottom is open so they can swim in and out of the bowl freely -
Omgosh, that is so cool. I'll going back to that site and check it out some more! -
Nice looking water feature!

Hi Sherry Dunwoody , what state do you live in? Here in the Northeast, we generally do our pond cleanouts in the spring because a lot us shut our ponds down for the winter. Did you see my post regarding winter pond preparation? http://www.hometalk.com/topics/outdoor-livin... is some info on Pond clean outs: https://www.facebook.com/notes/acorn-landsca... -
Great point Acorn landscaping. I'm in North Carolina and 99% of pond owners leave pond running all year. -
wonderful Job, this is so beautiful
