DIY Dog Fence

A climbing Jack Russell was a big problem until I built my own custom fence. Functional and Rustic loveliness.

I hope it works for you! I love the look of it. It's been a while...did she jump over it last night?

very nice, but could you explain what a vinegar and steel wool stain is? I've never heard of that before.

Go into her site that made the gate, at the bottom is a mason jar that says antique anything, the recipe for steel wool vinegar is in there. Looks like something i am going to try! Beautiful gate.

There is nothing better than the patina of the vinegar and steel wool solution... Love the table Barbara S! And Marg... no she can't get out but she will howl behind it now... yikes!

I'm wondering, is it attached to the wall?

Wow this looks so much better than a store purchased pet gate! I love hardware cloth!

would this work for cats or would they just climb it?

Kelly, they'd probably be able to just jump over it. I know mine would.

Shirley it is attached to the wall with a large eye screw into the wall (or door jam) and through 4 old door hinges I used on the back of the fence to further secure each wood joint. A plastic zip strap goes through the screw eye and through the hinge rings. This way it can easily be removed without leaving too much damage to the wall.

Nice idea and I like the vinegar stain idea. I've been trying to think of something to keep our pitbull from racing up to our front door and licking whoever is there and dont really like the commercial gates that are available. This one looks much nicer.

This is similar to what we did for a baby gate a few years ago. Yours looks wonderful!

That strap looks great but knowing this dog she would probably chew it to pieces and then jump out. Thanks for the suggestion though.... I think I'm going to just crate her for the nights behind the gate... double security!
