Turning a garden shed into a pond......

We had an old garden shed....

We didn't want it anymore...

We turned it into a pond.

We broke the garden shed down until there was only about a meter of walls left. Closed up the entrance with bricks we rescued. Then we built an inner container from cement blocks to withstand the water pressure, adding a ridge for water plants on one side. Waterproofed the it with pond foil and filled her up.

Total cost: minimal. The cement blocks where cheap, the pond foil isn't very expensive either and all the other materials where repurposed from other projects. All it took was some guts and hard work.

The pond with water lilies. The fish are doing great too.

Great job Marianne looks really nice, you may want to check the tree next to the pond because it looks like mulberrie to me and they grow huge it could mess up your pond in the very close future they grow like crazy i have one in my front yard that i just transplanted from the back

Brilliant! And I love the pallet peeking out from the back porch ;-) I am a user of pallets as well.

i have a cousin that had a barn that they made into a home, and they put fish in the silo that was next to the "home". Water held and fish did fine.

Wow Marianne!! Now that's what I call a real makeover. Awesome vision and fabulous execution. I'm not familiar w/pond foil - I assume it's a liner of some sort but could you give a little more detail? Do you plan to put a pump in there - I'd think you'd soon have a swarm of mosquitoes if the water isn't moving. Just curious . . . . Great job on this!!

@Maria C. Thanks for the warning! That is not a Mullberry bush though. It is however a fast growing monster that I have to wrestle with each Spring. But when he starts to bloom (like now) I always forgive him for being so pushy.

@Susan S Yes pond foil is a kind of big plastic that you use to make a waterproof container for a pond. You can buy it by the meter at any garden center or DIY store. And the fishes are doing a good job so far eating all the mosquitoe larvae. We have not had a bigger problem than before the pond yet.

Well some how I missed that you had fish in there!! I was kinda wondering if it was a "looks pretty" pond with some plants or if eventually you would add fishies!! LOL Thanks for clarifying the foil - liner thing. I guess the term foil threw me cause it makes me think of something shiny - like aluminum foil, ya know???

oh well, very good then, even though it looks just like mine, but mine doesn't give any flowers yet ( I am not an expert gardener, I just follow what the lowes garden guy told me when I took the leave) but i still love my tree and I am very exited to have a huge tree en my front yard..
