How Not to Kill an Orchid

I'm sure there's a ton of information out there about taking care of orchids. Actually -- I know there is because I tried to read through it all and I got so confused just by the sheer amount of info that was out there. So I pretty much condensed it all into a few bite size nuggets that I could totally digest.
If you're a first time orchid owner -- this is for you.
1. The best time to water an orchid is in the morning.
2. During dry months, water 1-2 times a week. I usually pop one ice cube into the pot every few days. Orchids are notorious for dying due to over watering.
3. Keep your orchid away from direct sunlight.
4. Fertilize once a month. They make fertilizer especially for orchids.

The ice cubes usage was on the plant tag that came with my orchid from the nursery.

@Linda My orchid also came with a tag that said to put 3 ice cubes on top of the wood chips once a week. I have done this for a couple of years. It does well and rebloomed.

Actually, the directions on purchasing orchids does say put 1 ice cube in dirt to water once a week.
