Rustoleum Countertop Transformations review

I recently tried Rustoleum Countertop Transformations to rescue an old linoleum countertop with great results. #bestof2012

Before - laminate was scratched and stained.

After - beautiful, durable new look to get a few more years out of this countertop. Not much work and I'm pleased with the result.

Sheila, there's a picture on this link of black counters with black appliances and it looks really good! http://hoosierroots.wordpress.com/2009/08/24...

This is a great Idea for a rental.....we are repainting kitchen cabinets and the people that moved out made a mess of counter tops and I dreaded having to replace them as I have custom cabinets and buying at home depot wasn't an option. Where would I go to get this stuff?

I recently did my laminate countertops. First I brushed on primer. Then applied acrylic paint in various colors like brown, tan, gold etc with a wadded up paper towel. Then applied polycrylic sealer (8 coats). My neighbor who works with granite thought it was the real granite. Total cost for everything was under $80.

I used the Rustoleum Countertop Transformations earlier this year on my 18 year old laminate countertops! It was very easy to use - though you probably should wear gloves when applying the product! All I did was to clean them thoroughly, sanded them lightly, then cleaned them again, and applied the product! Since I didn't want solid black countertops, I then sponged on blue, cream, and copper acrylic paint! Applied about 4 coats of clear polyurethane and voila, they are beautiful!

Your countertop looks great! We did a laminate shelf edge that runs around the walls on our lower level. It was rose pink...not a color suitable to a neutral-gender area. Did not use product specifically intended for this use. Purchased primer for plastic, then used paints to give it the varied color/texture effects and sealed with 4-5 coats of poly. Completed in 2007 and still looks great. It can be done.

I tried this kit in Onyx....ended up getting a full refund from Rustoleum. Then I used a Gianni kit from Walmart with better luck. Just a sponged kit, but at that point I was at a real loss. They turned out better than what I originally wanted.

I think I will also try Walmart for the easier kit....I'm sure they have different colors. I painted the cabinets white and have white appliances so maybe charcoal or onyx would be nice.

Looks really nice. I really need to redo my countertops (and floor) and dont have much money so this looks like a good idea. However, I tend to get impatient and dont know if I could hold off using my countertop for a whole week. lol.

Candice, we just redid the counters. I followed the instructions and resumed light use after 48 hours. And now (about a week later), we're still working on the apartment so they haven't had "real life" use. I do use them since there isn't furniture in there - for my paint can or tools but I am careful. We'll just be sure to have a trivet and cutting board handy which won't be too difficult since it's such a small kitchen and only a 3 ft section of counter! :) ...»

I've never tried the WalMart sponge kit but I've heard good things about it too.

Donna A, there's a "where to buy" tab on their website: http://countertops.rustoleumtransformations.....

    And Brenda R. - I've never tried it on a garage floor. I don't think I would.

LOL, Sondra! I get impatient too but one week of light use is a little amount of time to wait when getting a new look. ;) Good luck!

Kasha - it worked really well for me. I did have to touch up when I pulled off the FrogTape, but not a big deal. I thought it was really easy to do. Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you but glad you found an alternative!

With the Walmart kit, do you need to apply an overcoat for finishing?

Thanks, I'm definitely trying the Gianni product. Didn't hear such wonderful reviews on the rustoleum kit and it seems much more time/labor intensive

It's great that there are different products for different styles. I didn't find this kit to be difficult at all, love the result and durability and prefer the look of the decorative color chips to sponge painting but having more than one option is awesome! Thanks for the input and information, ladies!
