Oh wow! Lucky you!! What do you feed your tree and what other special care does it demand? I've considered planting either a lime or lemon tree, but was concerned about citrus diseases and care.
Becky H. No special care for the lemon tree, in fact last year it didn't produce any lemons. This year my brother in law just trim the dry out branches, and I think that helped. I usually water it everyday, especially in the summer time. Thanks for your interest.
NICE! I've been wanting a lemon tree...have a great recipe for air freshener that includes lemons and rosemary, and what would be better than using your own, FRESHLY grown lemons and rosemary! I too wasn't sure what the care would be for a lemon tree, good to know! Thanks!!!
Thanks everyone for your comments. My sis informed about Home talk since I am the crafty one in the family. I love it. I just signed up last wk. I am really enjoying this. I can not wait to share pics of my pecans. We have 2 pecans trees and they are full. The pecans should be ready by Nov. & will be baking my delicious banana nut bread. It's one of my family's favorite.
Anything you bake, has to be shared with everyone who comments on your posts on Hometalk! I think it's somewhere in the rules. Hope you don't mind a lot of trips to the post office..... :)
Ohhh...you're so lucky! Pecans are sooo expensive now-a-days! I remember as a little girl, going to pick them up at a friend of my grandparents', then sitting at my grandmother's table cracking and picking them! good times!
Elvira, your lemon tree has perfect timing. My Meyer lemon is full of fruit, but it will be months before they are ready.
@Becky: In Florida citrus needs to be on a pretty regular fertilization schedule but other than that it is not that high-maintenance. You do need as close to full sun as possible.
Thanks Douglas!! We live in a subdivision that used to be an orange grove before it was developed (55 yrs. ago), and to this date, we have what the neighbors call "grove rats". (I think that term is an attempt at making their presence more acceptable.) When we moved into this house, we had 3 very old, 3/4 dead orange trees removed. I've wished to plant a citrus tree we would actually use here, and decided a lime or lemon would be best; I don't want to leave anything on or around the

tree for vermin. Can you recommend a cultivar for either a lime or lemon tree that would do best here? Also, is a Meyer lemon the one that produces huge lemons?
Becky, my Meyer lemon produces fruit that is larger than supermarket size, but the really huge lemons are Ponderosas. I think you should plant what you would use the most. Limes are, in general, less cold-tolerant than lemons. Tangerines and satsumas are also good choices in that regard.
Panagiota___it's a Mexican Lime, with a hybrid of tangerine. Makes great lemonade. One pitcher will take One cup of sugar with 3 lemons. The lemons are small, they don't grow too big.
Becky from NE thank you!
