Let the sun shine in with old gate window screens

I am not a traditional curtain kinda gal. I prefer my windows wide open to let that sunshine in. However bare windows can look pretty cold all on their own. So I softened up my big picture window with some gate styled window screens.

Full tutorial is avail.

The gate inspired window screens flank the big picture window in the living room. They're big but don't overpower the room due to being slightly fold...

I air-nailed pine tongue and groove onto the screens, then trimmed the tops.

The end result is a pretty cottage styled accent that would suit most any decor. AND they are easy keepers for homes with pet hair... just sayin. :)

Donna, I love the element of old fashionedness about this along with the chic & sophisticated simplicity. One thing I can't figure out - and I've looked at your blog several times - did you fasten the wood doors over the Japanese room dividers so now they show to the outside and the wood is showing inside?

Thanks everyone! Susan, I just air nailed the boards to the fronts of the japanese screens and called it done. Worked great!

Very different and looks nice. I like the sun shining in also and often battle family members as I like the natural light and the openness.
