DIY King Platform Bed

For several months I have been chiseling away at my hubby's resistance to building a new bed (and to buying yet another mattress). But after a trip away this summer to NM and staying at a posh hotel with the best bed ever, he came home with a new sense -our mattress from that well known mattress place SUCKED! It is only 2 years old and is by far the worst mattress with a warranty that meant nothing...anyhow...
I had built our headboard a couple years ago and knew then I wanted a platform bed so on our hunt for a new mattress we started looking at new beds (we were going back up to a King so pricing already 'built beds'). When my hubby saw the price tags for cheap wobbly wooden platform beds he changed his mind about building one. Another added bonus-without buying the box spring (another $400) we were going to save about $500 if we built it ourselves...that did not take hubby long to say yes!
So for about $125, we built the bed with an added feature-the critter deterrent. No cats and I hope excessive amounts of fur can go under the bed. You can paint or stain it. I chose stain because I have antiques that are stained walnut and hubby agreed to help build if we stained it. How could I say no?
