Living in Charleston SC is a blessing to Tim and I.

We love living here mostly because of the wonderful people and the gorgeous weather.

However, with the beautiful weather comes home the upkeep of our home.

We have 3 exterior doors that need restained every 1-2 years. Becoming a huge expense.

Thought we would see if Tim could conquer the project this time.

Result=Success.

The doors look gorgeous and we have figured out that we saved almost $1000.00.

The materials (sandpaper, stain, and new paint brushes) cost about $50.00.

The project has been somewhat time consuming but he did a little bit each time he got a chance. For that kind of savings...totally worth it.

Tip of the project: ...»

Make sure to sand off the old stain, down to the bare wood, apply the stain with a clean rag rather than with a brush and go slow with the top coat of clear poly.

The thinner the better for a perfect finish.

    Charleston is one of my most favorite towns. We stayed on the "Battery", and I can understand the effect weather would have on those old beautiful structures. Hope the refinish lasts awhile this time, every 1-2 years is a lot. Keep us updated and give Tim a break.

    It really did. And the coats (s) of clear poly made it shine.

    Looks great

    Yes the multiple thin coats of Poly can really add the depth. I do a light steel wool between dried coats and you can get a mirror finish if so desired! Always a pleasure Terry! JL
