I recently scored a vintage library card catalog for $85. The only problem is the missing drawer. I've been searching for a matching label holder/drawer pull to no avail. Any suggestions?
Oh man! I am envious! I would love to have a card catalog. Maybe if you can't find a drawer, you could make one and paint it white. It is right in the middle, so it would be a cool accent. Or you could just put a piece of white painted with a label on it and nail it in place. It could be labeled "Apothecary" or "Chelsea's Wares" or something of the like.
If you know how to make a faux or real drawer...what about removing the pulls on that entire vertical row of drawers, putting something else on those that creates a little contrast to the the other pulls. Round pulls would look cool, or vintage knobs? Do you plan to paint it?
Or if you can't find a drawer anywhere, or make a faux one, then maybe take out every second drawer and make it look intentional... Or all the ones on the bottom row
I like the ideas above of a faux drawer or permanent piece of wood in the place of the drawer. Perhaps the wood could have the date of the piece, if you know the date or a good guess at the date. You could also roll up yellowed, vintage newspaper and stick it in the open slot. Look around an antique shop and you might find something that would go in it. If you do woodworking, could you try making a new drawer or at least one close enough to look like it blends? Just passing thoughts.

I know you are thrilled you found it! So neat and such a great conversation piece!
Love this! Can't wait to see what you do with it. The one that I recently scored had a drawer missing too! Funny. I just left all of the bottom drawers out and filled the row with small jars.
One more thing, maybe chalkboard paint on a piece of wood attached to the opening with the date or the library it came from, if you know. What's on the little label that's at the very bottom in the middle? Something you could use?
Could you make a small frame and put a sign in it that says what type of things you'll be using it for. Attach it with velcro to the drawer stops so you can still use the space behind it.
Chelsea, I just checked ebay and someone is selling drawers individually with the hardware. The drawer probably wouldn't fit, but the hardware looks very similar, except in brass.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Library-CARD...
Donna, the little label is the name and location of the manufacturer. I think they've gone out of business because their website is longer available. I wish they were still in business because I would see if they still make the drawer pulls.
If you can't make your own replacement drawer I'd see if a local woodworker could do the job for you. Maybe even check with a school and see students could make one.

Thanks, Sheila! I'll check out that link!
