Brass lamps updated with spray paint

I found this matching set of brass lamps at a thrift store for $3.03 each. I envisioned them painted and that is what I did. A few coats of Krylon white primer, then Krylon gloss white spray paint, and they were done. Full details and my plans for the lamp shades on my blog.

Beautiful! It's amazing the how much better they look in the white and what a different look they have. I have done this before with lamps and with brass candle holders.

Love the look, I always worry about the paint chipping off. But, I'm gonna try this for sure!

@Deb G - if you use primer that should prevent the paint from chipping off. You could even lightly sand the lamps with fine grit sandpaper to get it to adher better.

These are quite lovely. I have two brass lamps and the same intentions. You are inspiring me to get beyond thinking about it.

These are lovely - quite a transformation!

Just thought I'd share that using Krylon Appliance spray paint (high gloss) works fabulously on metals like lamp bases... no primer needed for a fast project, and it clings like glue! I've used it many times with great results.

The best primer for metal is called "Self-Etching Primer". It is the grey stuff that is used on automobiles before painting. Also works well for door knobs and bathroom fixtures that you might decide to paint. (Yes, spray painting works very well if you are tired of brass door knobs and faucets.) Home Depot carries Self-Etching Primer in their spray paint cage. Just ask.
