Refinish hardwood floors

Floors were worn and in rough shape, we bought the house 22 years ago and they were worn then.
We shopped hard to find a contractor that gave us good value. Finances were a real factor, but not at the expense of quality. The prep work and post refinish work was substantial. We emptied the entire contents of the house into our basement, kitchen, bathroom and a Pack Rat storage container (much less money than a comparble POD.
The contractor started on a Monday and we could start moving some things back into the house the following Sunday (very carefully) We paid to have contractor use a dust free system and were very glad that we did. Dust was fairly minimal, but the fumes (oil based finish) were difficult to live with for a month. First few days I moved back in I had bad headaches.
We wanted to do a water based finish, much more environmentally friendly, but thye cost went up over 50%
Advice:
Pretty positive, contractor lived up to his word, and the job was completed on schedule and well.

  • What did you do with the older floor? I like the color of your new floor. At home I have a dark wood floor and it leaves footprint stains on them when we walk barefoot. I wish I had this color at home too.
