Pergola

by Sunita P
I built two pergolas, one for the adults and one for the kids. I cut, stained and installed all the lumber.
*Project Steps:
I already had some ideas for the back yard but didn't get started until the neighbor put up a fence. I realized this was a great opportunity to get the fence guys to dig me some holes. They said sure, mark up the yard where you want them. Off to the drawing board I went then to Home Depot. On a Friday evening we setup the post with concrete. Saturday and Sunday, we cut and installed the lumber per our drawings. After letting the lumber dry, it was time to stain.
Advice:
• Keep your eye out for other projects going on in your area. Professionals can give you a better rate if they are already there. Everyone is always looking for a little extra cash.
• I took advantage of Home Depots home delivery service. Once you place an order, they collect all the items on the list. I also found the lumber delivered was in great shape. Previously, I have spent a lot of time sifting through the lumber on the floor.
• Try to do projects with a partner. Ladders and power tools can be hazardous.
