Jewelry Organizer From Old Window Frame - Total Budget $0

I work in an industrial zone, so I always see random bits of what other people deem as garbage laying around the dumpsters. For me they are treasures just waiting to be snatched up. I used this old window frame I found to create a fun jewelry organizer for my room as well as a unique wall decor. In one evening I created a place to de-clutter my jewelry with just paint, an old tablecloth, a window frame, and vaseline (yes, that's right, vaseline). "Jewelry doesn't have to look good only when worn" is my new motto.
Here is the dusty, old window frame I found on the streets. My coworkers thought I was crazy when I carried it home with me on the bus.
I wanted to create an artsy distressed paint look for my jewelry organizer. I started by base painting it with a pretty purple I created by mixing two shades of acrylic paint. I let this dry and then dabbed it with vaseline. I painted over this a light shade of acrylic grey paint. When this dries I scrubbed it with a brillo pad. This was my first time attempting this distressed painting technique and I love the effect!
Next step was the most challenging. I nailed my grandmother's old eyelet tablecloth to the back of the frame. I loved the fabric, as it creates perfect hooks for hanging necklaces, dangle earrings, and bracelets. I haven't yet hung up the jewelry organizer as this will require my handy-dandy neighbor to come over with his drill. The only sad part of this whole project was realizing how little jewelry I have, which is ironic as I work for a jewelry company!
