Light It Up Electric
by Light It Up Electric
Customer extended back yard to lake area at rear of home. Electrician would need to add distribution panel 100amp rating for future power supply.
Electrician added a total of 46 high energy efficient l.e.d low voltage lighting. This light is meant for a soft ambient glow as to relax while outdoors. At 40 dollars each pretty steep but never has to be replaced weather proof light.
*Options I considered for this project:
Many options to choose from we could go with standard icandecent bulbs; are pretty expensive at like 7 bucks each for lamp. Higher maintence to operate, and maintain.Internal wire damage from corrosive termination or socket damage replace or over heating occurs frequently 120 volt power supply. Perks for icandecent lights are that they put out alot more light. Really great for general purpose lighting and direct lights.
Initial lower cost at about 27.00 each for incadecent lighting.
So in a relaxed enviroment I needed a softer light.
L.E.D lighting 40. bucks each definite higher intial cost. Basically no operating cost . Bulbs never have to be replaced, and 7 watt output gives perfect ambient soft glow for relaxation by the lake.
* Cost Comments:
Lights were 40 bucks each 46 lights purchased=1840
labor 30 each to install and trench lighting=1380
*Project Steps:
First step was power supply for future lights and power supply for pump circulations water fall. 100 amp distribution was cheap wire cost triplex from H D at like 1.40 a foot awesome price. Panel and breakers 150.
Laying lights out, focus on all trees was key they were put there for a reason.
Wall wash on retaining walls.
lights in water fall x 3 power supply for pump circulations. lights for both sets of steps. And one general purpose light, and one general purpose outlet.
Advice:
There were 46 lights total installed every tree accounted for during day time work.
Tech had to make second visit at night to get the real picture from across lake. Pictures are really hard to express in night time for soft ambient light hard to capture on camera.Shadow spots on retaining wall were corrected on night visit by adding additional lighting.
Basic no cost to operate.
Now 46 lights at a 120 volt 75 watt each =3450 watts. incandescent major difference in operating cost present and long term.

I'm a big fan of LED's too. I wired my cabin for 12 v LED...whole cabin lighting for 40 watts. Its off grid and runs off an 80 watt solar system

Nice concept....but a 100 AMP service for outdoor use? That's enough for a 1500 SF house. and at $70,00 per LED fixture (fixture and labor) is a bargain....I install a Solid Brass Floodlight(lifetime warranty) with a 3Watt MR16 LED lamp ( equivalent to a 20 Watt halogen lamp) for $150.00 including transformer and wire, And one other thought....a LED lamp has a lamp life of 30,000 to 50,000 "useable" lamp life so do not think that they never have to be replace. BTW...all lamp life is rated at usage of 3 hours per day under a controlled environment. Granted the LED lamp does not generate the heat that shortens the filament life of an incandescent lamp, and vibration and temperature changes do not effect the filament,,,it will not last forever.
