Planter Box

Create an outdoor planter large enough for a shrub type of plant. Have a design that was attractive for the style of house. Low maintenance and long lasting.
*Options I considered for this project:
Ordering a plastic planter from the internet.
Buying a pot from a local store.
Building a planting box that matched our deck.
*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:
Measure the plastic bin yourself, don't go by the dimensions listed on the label for planning the amount of material to buy.
* Cost Comments:
ChoieDek boards 4 (12 ft boards): $95
Screws: $10
Storage bin: $20
*My motivation to do this project:
Rectangular shaped planting boxes were hard to find. The one I found on the internet was $160 and still just a plastic pot. I felt building it myself would make it longer lasting and sturdier. I had previously built a storage bench and small planter/table out of leftover deck materials. So, I had some design ideas.
*Project Steps:
My wife selected a plastic storage bin the size she wanted for the planter. I then designed a box using composite decking material. I had previously built a storage bench out of leftover deck material, so I had that to give me ideas. I built the sides to box in the plastic bin. I ripped a deck board down the middle to make the top and bottom side trim. I fastened the boards from the inside to the top and bottom trim. Then, I fastened the sides together placing triangle pieces in the bottom corners for extra support. I ripped the deck board down the middle for the top trim and routed the inside edge to make it rounded like the outside edge. Adding the top trim hid the plastic bin.
Advice:
Since you build the sides separately, be careful to plan for the overlap in the corners
