Decorating above my kitchen cabinets.
*Options I considered for this project:
I considered what my kitchen design theme was first then selected different accessories that would reflect the design concept.
*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:
Height, weight and material of accessories placed on top of cabinets.
* Cost Comments:
Depends on your hobby and style.
*My motivation to do this project:
To create interesting accessories that displayed my personality and design.
*Project Steps:
First Step- Measured height of area between cabinet and ceiling. Second Step: Selected theme of kitchen style. I wanted to go with a Urban Modern Theme for my kitchen. In the past I have designed my kitchen with French Country or Apple Country themes. This time I wanted to select a theme that could be timeless and modern. I also wanted to start a collection of black advertisements which is very easy to collect using eBay.
Step 3: Finding My Accessories
I used eBay, yard sales in my neighborhood and thift stores to find my accessories. Nothing I placed as decoration was over $10.00.
Step 4: Making still life settings
I placed my accessories in groupings that where eye pleasing and harmony.
Advice:
Don't use the top of your cabinets as dust collectors or cereal storage. Do use the space to display your personal hobbies, collections or interest.

Use containers as decor and storage of dry goods.
Fruit always adds a nice touch.
bottles, colored glass or vases are also interesting items that can be placed above the cabinet.
Collections can also be displayed within the area.
Baskets are common decor items found above the cabinet.

Ditto on the look alike cabinets and space. I've put collectables from the family and some my Fiesta pitchers. It does look a little busy, but what the heck, I look at it every day. LOL

My daughter places her lighted miniature houses ( a village full ) on the top of her cabinets at Christmas time. She places white cotton batting down on them first to look like snow. She has collected them for years.
