Replaced Oven Baking Element / Coil

Baking Element at bottom of oven flamed out and needed to be replaced for GE Oven JTP15WBB2B

*Options I considered for this project:

Calling a service repairman or finding the parts to fix it myslef.

*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:

Finding the correct part locally within in day so we could use oven the next night.

* Cost Comments:

New Baking Element $57- You'll find the model number on front of oven just inside lip of door.

*My motivation to do this project:

Oven not operational.

*Project Steps: ...»

Researched repair online

Researched buying replacement part online

Researched buying part locally by searching online

Bought part locally

Turned off Breaker

Removed old baking element - only two

screws and push-off prongs

Cleaned out oven

Installed New Baking element - tow prongs and pushed back into wall of oven then replace two hex screws.

Turned breaker back on

Tested new burner at low heat and high heat for several minutes

Advice:

Do's

Look for best deal on part locally (I called around and found part for $35 less than GE was selling online and same as some other online websites but found locally so didn't have to pay shipping and wait for the part)

Plan to get oven cleaner and clean out oven while your in there

Plan on about 15-30 minutes once your have the part

Don't

DYI - don't call service man- this was an easy repair

Forget to turn off breaker to oven before starting repair

Materials:

Small hex driver - $0.00

New Baking Element - $0.00

Was the part a GE product sold by another dealer? This is an nteresting approach of bargain shopping.

You did not mention where you bought the part - was it locally?
