Denim Look Wall Painting

We wanted to create a jean / denim look on the chair rail portion of my sons bedroom walls.

*Options I considered for this project:

Purchased a kit from home depot was the only option we considered. We had used a lady to do some custom painting in one of our children's rooms in another house but decided to do it oursleves.

*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:

Never had done this affect with paint before

* Cost Comments:

Paint kit - $50; $25 paint supplies

*My motivation to do this project:

Redecorate my son's room from the original paint form the home builder. We wanted to create a jean / denim look on the chair rail ...»

portion of my sons bedroom walls.

*Project Steps:

Purchased a kite that included the paint, the scoring tool and tape at home depot -

Painted the chair rail portion of the wall with white paint in sections

Let the white dry for a day

Applied the blue/faux/translaucent paint and then scored with provided tool - this creates the faded look of the jeans

The key was to tape off each to create a 1/2 inch section that was painted twice so it was darker - this became the "Seam" of the jeans

After the blue drys then go back to each seam area and use the provided tape that is very narrow with small holes. Measure and line up a strip from top to bottom. Paint the whole with the white paint and use have a jeans / denim seam.

Materials:

Paint kit - $0.00

This is indeed a very creative approach to decorating your kids room. I really love the 'Denim' look. Innovative!

So if you wear jeans at home, you're camouflaged? Was this your own creation or a kit? I have also never seen something like this.

Wow - this is totally awesome! Did the home depot kit have everything you needed for this? Is it some kind of special paint? I'd love to try it out in my "chill" room - what's the kit called?

I called home depot in our town. They did not have this kit. Can you please give us the brand and name of the Kit. Thank you! Awesome job!

Hi - yes it was a kit from Home Depot I believe and it came with the scoring tool, glaze and tape that created the seam look. Just as FYI.. my son is older and got tired of this look and we painted a whole new theme.. I'll post new pictures soon. It features a two tone blue/gray with a red stripe. I'll post some new pictures soon.

My son is a big Texas Rangers and Mavericks fan (actually we all are). So we have a wall dedicated to Rangers with banner, Mavs (dirk fat heat) and soon to get a new championship banner (ya !!). So we did a two tone blue/grey with a red stripe. Added some shelving for trophies and new blue shade. My wife recovered the window topper and for about $100 and some labor a new look. And taught my son how to paint a little..

What a great feature. Of course the danger is always that someone will ask "do these jean walls make my butt look fat?"

Do you happen to know the name of the color of blue you used to get that color denim? I don't want to get a blue that looks like cheap jeans. I prefer the Wrangler color of blue denim. Thanks!
