Painting Bedrooms

James A
by James A
I painted two bedrooms in my home.
*Options I considered for this project:
I considered hiring someone to do the painting, it would have saved a lot of physical effort. But I decided to do it myself since I am retired and have the time. Also, I am living on a pension and budget.
*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:
Color is always an issue. I like white and let my room decor provide color. Yet these days seems like more people do use fairly risque color options. The eggshell color is also popular. However, being set in my ways I chose white with eggshell trim.
* Cost Comments:
Figure about 400 Sq Ft per Gallon when planning paint amount. Remember - two coats. (Height x Length = Sq Ft).
*My motivation to do this project:
It was time. The walls were not only dingy but had a couple minor spakling repairs needed.
*Project Steps:
Planning - chosing colors, equipment needed. Preparation - the longest step - moving, covering taping and removing hardware. Buying materials. I cleaned the walls. Covered objects that could not be moved. Spackled and sanded dents. Painting - Used rollers on walls and ceilings. Two coats. Brushed taped edges carefully. Cleanup - was a bigger job than I figured. Had a couple of drips on carpet I had to clean with detregent. Removing tape and put decor back into place.
Advice:
Do use a roller with an extended pole handle. Great for long reaches. Don't cover small holes and cracks without spackle. When it dries they return! Don't pour paint in drains or gutters, bad for environment. Do assure left over paint can lids are on firmly. Do clean your brushes thouroghly, wrap in newspaper and tie sring around to store. Do play some good music to keep you going and make the job more fun!
Materials:
Brushes, rollers - $10.00
5 Gallons Paint - $125.00
Misc - Spakle, tape, Sandpaper, drop cloth - $17.00
Many great choices for color, texture and quality. Planning is important!
Looked something like this beforehand.
Prepackaged brushes, trays and roller packs saved me big $!
I like white and let the room decor add the desired color effect.
I went a little wild and added a border color of off white.
Corners were approached with a small brush. I had cracks and plaster tape coming off. This had to be fixed in the prep stage. Came out pretty nice. Heh?
Set back and enjoy! A job that was kinda fun and looks great!
