re-seal master bathtub

I am re-caulking the seal around the master bathtub.
*Options I considered for this project:
I considered hiring our local handyman, but this looked easy enough to do on my own.
*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:
My only question was about what ype of caulk to use, and the application of the caulk.
*My motivation to do this project:
The original seal has cracked and water is going between the tub and wall.
*Project Steps:
Remove loose dirt and paint. Prepare caulk and dripless caulk gun.
Advice:
Do touch up paint before caulking! I do not have any extra paint from our master bathroom, so I didn't touch up where the paint had peeled. I should have done this before caulking. Also, don't cut such a big hole in the caulk tube where the silicon comes out, it would have been neater had I used a more narrow bead of caulk.
Materials:
silicon caulk - $5.00
dripless caulk gun - $3.80
area where paint had chipped from water damage
corner of tub
silicon caulk used for project
caulk gun used for project

good job to catch this project early ....I have seen way too many tub and showers destroyed by water from failed caulk. A single course of bull-nosed tile could also add some character and beef up the dry wall base .

Very nice job. This is something that I desparately need to do in our tub. Like James A above, mine is moldy, and scraping the old is needed. Sometimes that's not easy to do either. The caulk tube read "clear". Was that because the wall is painted behind? I'll be using white, and the 1-hour ready caulk is a very nice thought.
