Back Splash

My husband I put together this Bar/China/Buffet area, now it's time to add some finishing touches.

*My motivation to do this project:

A back splash would add more character and light. I was thinking of making some kind of shadow box with lighting from behind or some kind of water feature would be very cool and interesting. Would this be too much with the busy granite counter?

Nice work Sunita....you painted it as well? The "mini" pic made it look like colored pastas at first until I opened it up to take a closer look. Love the colors....alot of my clients are going pretty bold with some access colors. Color on one wall...even something bold...can make a HUGE difference to a room...then accessorize around it. It's not all that expensive to do....and..get sick of it and you can do it over inexpensively.

@Sunita: One more question ... would you share your source for the led lights?

Wow, that is amazing! It's just so... happy! It really makes the kitchen come alive with a dynamic and almost "fluid" pattern... and those colors really pop! What material is that? Did you paint it yourself?

I love your idea of using a piece of art as a back splash. It is like having the best of all worlds. . . what you love now, what a buyer wants later AND the ability to take it with you when you leave!!! GREAT idea.

I am a BIG DIYer, when I get an idea I go for it. The satifaction I get is indescribable.

Wyatt: This is a glass panel that I painted with glass paint.

KL K: I just used christmas lights.

That's the fun of this....the release of creative energy and the ability to express yourself...it's a blast. I've always wanted to learn to paint landscapes and will someday. Painting is very relaxing and therapeutic..which is why I continue to paint exteriors. Love the work Sunita

Sunita, This is so neat! I love the difference between night and day. Is it backlit?

@Sunita: I'd like to obscure the view through a pair of full-glass French doors. I was thinking of trying to paint a double border and use some sort of frosted spray to fill in the middle. What paint did you use? I tried a couple types but didn't get a good result.

i agree Unique but no way would I want to look at it more than a few minutes let alone a lifetime..

What I did instead for the backsplash was to use the granite I have on the countertops.. certainly more expensive but I had the budget for it.. and the granite itself is a unique one too... not seen or not seen much . i did see some at a granite show but that is about it.

I wish you well on your splashes...

my jaw dropped! And I think I even wiped a bit of drool off my mouth, lol. Just wonderful, and practical too? So awesome you can remove it if needed! I've been itching to let out some creativity lately, you may have pushed me to my next project! My backs plash has been bugging me,

Question, are the LED's on in both pics, just one taken during day resulting in less brightness? Or are the lights off for your daytime pic? I love the glass painting aspect, but fear I would ...»

be overwhelmed with the lighting as a DIYer. Also, I prefer the more muted daylight scheme, than the brightness of the night pic. Then again, it is a great way to add lighting in an unlit part of my kitchen...

    Very Impressive, thanks for sharing!

Caitlin: The LED's are off during the day. I'm with you; day time function is the art and night for lighting.

KL K: French doors would look awesome. If you like a stain glass effect there is also paint for the lead. I used pebeo and gallery glass brands which are found online and Michaels. The glass was frosted when I bought it. Get a small piece of glass (Hobby Lobby) and experiment. You will use a ...»

lot of paint; it works better if you can lay the glass down. You might get a cold draft for a couple of days, HA! HA!

Seriously, the pictures don't do it justice. This may not be everyone's taste and I can appreciate that, art is art.
