Vintage Secretary Desk Updated With Paint and Stain

When a client says "Do whatever you want" with a piece they want painted, I get very nervous. It's not that I do not have confidence, it is more that I want it to fit into their space.
That was the case with this sweet little secretary desk a client wanted to have "updated". The desk was very unique with cubbyholes behind glassed doors. I rather liked it the way it was but she was tired of the dark wood.
To help her pick a colour, I uploaded the photo to Photoshop and created several crude mock ups in various colours I thought would look nice. You can see the post at http://www.nicerthannew.com/2014/05/envision/.
In the end the client picked Grey and I began the transformation.
Check out the steps and my "live and learn" experience on my blog.
Super cute desk with doors and cubbyholes.
One of several crude mock-ups to show the client different colours
So much fresher with paint and stain.

Nice! Love the paint/natural wood combo!

I have a similar desk, a bit longer, and have been thinking of painting, but seeing this combo, perhaps I will leave the top alone. Thanks for a new idea.
