Backyard Koi Pond

We moved into a newly built home in the Old Fourth Ward in Atlanta. The backyard has a beautiful white oak, native to Georgia, but little else. We moved here from Phoenix and had a great Koi pond that also included turtles. We want to create a pond for the backyard in our new home. We miss the fish and the turtles.
*My motivation to do this project:
The yard has no landscaping at all, so we thought the addition of the pond would bring about the beginning of the landscaping of the yard.
*Project Steps:
I have measured the space for the elements we are contemplating. I will upload a plan on Friday.
Advice:
Be sure to note water drainage issues and correct any issues. Also lay out the block in the shape you desire before any permanent placement. Be certain that the block is level and square; start the permanent placement in a corner.
Materials:
100 X Cinder block - $125.00
1 X Water feature - $445.00
1 X Water feature pump - $195.00
1 X Pond Filter - $1100.00
1 X Pump for Filter - $800.00
This is the front of the home -- before we moved into it. We have added some character to the front with some roses off the the left, along a retaining wall that was built during the home remodel next door. We also have placed a fountain in the front, between the long windows.
This is the space for the Koi pond. It is located in front of the garage. As you can see, the yard slopes toward the house, so there will be some building of the pond above ground.
This is a shot of the pond location from the master bedroom screened porch.
This is also a picture of the backyard where the pond will be located. In this picture, the tree is clearly visible. We are concerned about the roots and how close we can dig near the tree.
This i a view of the pond location from the side of the yard. The edge of the garage foot print is visible as if the scope of the oak tree.
This is an angled view of the area for the pond. Under the stairs that go to an apartment above the garage, I intend to run a row of cinderblocks that will parallel the garage wall. I will then fill this area with dirt from the dig and plant shade loving specimens in this area. the pond would begin in front of this planting area.
The tree is visible in this picture. It is offset from the walkway by 15 feet.

Some family illnesses have caused me to delay this project! If we'd get a few sunny days I'd be further along!

Finally, the winter has ended and I have resumed work on the pond. Work is progressing nicely, and I will upload pictures shortly on my progress.
