To replace a screen in a door on a screened in porch.
Advice:
Try not to do this on a very windy day.
Start at the corner of your choice.
Using your finger first, push the rubber piece on top of screen, into groove.
There is a "wheel" tool resembling a pizza cutter that isn't sharp that is available to help with this process.
I use the handle of a butter knife. It isn't sharp but it is strong.
Gradually work the rubber down into the groove. Pay attention the the lines in the screen to assure it is going in straight.
When you reach the first corner you will have to tuck it in deep to allow it to turn the corner.
Take your time and go slowly. The main thing is to have the screen in the groove without damaging the new screening.
Apply your pressure to the "outside" of the screen when pressing rubber into the groove. This way it is pressing where it will later be cut off.
Take you time and go around the entire frame this way.
You may end up with excess rubber when you have completed installing into the frame.
Very, very carefully trim the rubber piece with a razor knife. Be careful not to cut yourself or cut the screening that was just installed.
Now you can trim the screen. Take a razor knife and trim the screen in the groove on the outside of the rubber piece just installed.
Do this all around the frame.
Again take your time.
After trimming, take a few minutes to make sure the rubber piece is "deep" in the groove.
The screen has been installed in the frame.
Reinstall the frame on the door in the reverse order that you removed it.
Be careful, now there is a screen present that can be damaged.
Screen door repaired.
Looks nice.
It is one continuous piece that runs all around the entire screen.
Again, a look at the screen before beginning.
There is a screen frame screwed to the door itself.
Use a drill or screw gun to remove phillips head screws.
Insure the setting is slow for the screws.
Unscrew the phillips head wood screws holding the screen frame to the door.
Leave the top screws for last.
Screen Frame is now loose from the door.
Remove rubber piece that holds the screen in the groove along the edge of screen frame.
Be careful not to damage the frame or the rubber piece.
Take your time.
If you are careful you will be able to reuse this piece.
Here is the door with the damaged screen, that is to be repaired.
Clean out any pieces of old screening that remain in the groove.
Also, remove any pieces of old screening that are stuck on the rubber piece.
The frame should be as flat and straight as possible. If not, gently bend it back into shape.
Try to make sure the corners are also square. Screen frames are not very strong so use caution. Do not hammer.
Lay new screening on top of screen frame. Allow a few inches all around.
When proper length has been determined, trim screening from roll.
To avoid damaging floor, use a piece of scrap wood to cut on.
Take your time and trim it off.
Now you have the screen ready to be installed.
Here is a view of the new screening that is several inches larger than the frame all around.
