We are shoring up the back deck; repainting it and adding new ceiling fans.
*My motivation to do this project:
Our deck is getting old and starting to shift and pull away from the house. It needs to be rehabbed to be safe and updated.

Sounds like you're on the right track. We published an article called "7 Reasons Your Deck Could Collapse." Sounds like good food for thought while you are in the deck rebuilding process.

I noticed on your plan PT decking ...have you looked into other options? I'm a big fan of Ipe and the family of hardwood decks...hands down they hold up better than anything else on the market and are a sustainable and renewable resource...unlike the whole plastic deck options. the hardwood decks require a little maintenance but the smooth splinter free surface are worth it .
