Union Jack Step Table

The New Vintage

First off, I want to sincerely thank everyone for all the overwhelming comment love you gave for my previous post. While my vintage style step table might not win you over by means of originality or creativity, who doesn’t like a classic Union Jack design? When I first laid my eyes on this step table, there was no doubt in my mind that I would paint it Union Jack.
I used this link http://www.jdawiseman.com/papers/union-jack/union-jack.html as a guide for painting the Union Jack. I started off by painting the entire area white.
A few coats of white paint later, I used painter's tape to expose the area to be painted blue. I've seen many examples where people at this stage would arrange the painter's tape for the blue and red to be painted at the same time. Not a bad idea except my Union Jack design is a bit too small for this method to work. So in the end, I opted for prepping and painting the blue and red separately.
After the blue paint went on, I removed the tape while it was still wet to prevent tearing. I did have an issue with the tape peeling off my base paint but that could easily be fixed by a few touch up here and there.
Once the blue paint had dried completely, I repeated the same process for the last paint color, red, to go on. And when the final tape was removed...
PS. On a slightly different topic, while working on this step table, I happened to attend a concert by the African Children’s Choir at my kids’ school. I was so moved by the children that I decided I would give the sale from this table to them. Check out their website http://africanchildrenschoir.com/ for more information and tour dates for areas near you =)

Being British I've become a bit blasé about Union Jack motifs (round about the Queen's diamond jubilee EVERYTHING here was covered in them) but this is just quirky enough to catch my attention! I know from experience it's not always the easiest design to get right but you did a great job :-)

Wow... I am speechlessly flattered.. If that even makes any sense.
