I am having a problem with the paint on my pool deck sticking.

Several years ago I got a laytex at Lowes called Epoxy it never stuck well and came up with the hose so I used the pressure washer and got up most of it and put down a laytex primer then went to a regular paint store and got a pool deck paint. I am still having problems when I hose off the pool deck to clean it and with wear everything including the primer is coming up. I cleaned the deck before I painted and it was thoroughly dry and the weather was hot. I have painted and stripped so many times now I am beyond frustrated. Any suggestions are greatly appreciaed.

It may be time to consider some of the aggregate finishes...products have developed considerably since inception. Used to be just shiny yellow brown river pellets fused together now there are myriad designs and colors to choose from but I don't believe it's DIY project Kathy...may have to consult a professional for advice like "Amazing Improvements" here on HomeTalk...those folks seem to know their way around some concrete pours! Hope this helps a bit, keep us posted please...best of luck! JL

Might want to lower the pressure on your washer or use another method to clean.

Thank you for your ideas, tile would be too slippery when wet. Using a pool deck paint you "should" be able to clean with a pressure washer, I always did before this mess started and that is what I'd like to get back to, if possible.

Kathy, this is a specialty type application,as you have found out, not something done from a big box store. Even under good conditions, it's a harsh environment for paint. Most likely, all the coatings need to come off. This means using multiple coats of the harshest paint stripper removed with a pressure washer with a surface cleaner attachment. It's a messy, risky and hazardous operation and I would not recommend it for a homeowner. I could elaborate more on the things that could ...»
have gone wrong, but I would need to know more details. Can you post a picture?
