Building dry creek bed and fountain-suggestions needed

I have never done this before and would appreciate suggestions to improve it. I will be adding plants as I can. Not sure I like the mulch but I feel this is a lot of rocks ( all hand picked by me, oh my aching back).

  • I have a dry stream bed and found that putting pots for color and blooms which can be picked up and moved was easier in the fall and winter when raking and blowing leaves. I like the look-sometimes less is more...maybe in the mulched areas start putting in different kinds of plants. That is what I would do. dry stream beds in nature usually do not have plants growing in the rock but along the edges you will find plants.

I like it but agree that pots with seasonal flowers would add a little color.

Very pretty, I think. Could use some color or not.

Very nice. I would make it a little curvier and add some larger rocks in the interior stream that are partially buried in the smaller rock. Some larger plant material, just a few large tufts of grass or yucca, in threes and fives not even numbers, would make it look more natural and established. In nature, trees and shrubs and vegetation grow along the waterways, so anchoring it with vegetation that looks indigenous helps. I hear ya on the aching back. I keep telling myself no more rock work, but can't seem to get away from them. It's looking good!
