Custom Kitchen and deck in Morningside

KITCHEN DESIGN IDEAS:

This custom kitchen was created by combining two rooms into one open space for living and entertaining. The former kitchen was a small galley and only a couple of people could fit in at one time. We also added a 16' foot to a new custom concrete and steel deck off the back of the house.

Nella- there are many different ways to renovate. You don't have spend your entire life savings to get the affect your are looking to achieve.

    CUSTOM DECK ideas:

There was a discussion on "green decks" a while back on hometalk and I was asked to provide some photos of our latest concrete and steel deck. This concrete was stamped and sealed to look like stone and we custom fabricated the handrail to give the deck a unique look. This deck should last well past 50 years, where a typical deck in the South starts to fall apart at 10 years if not properly maintained.

Thanks Steve. Glad I got the request from another user or I would have waited to get the after shots. I had to wait for the clients to install the furniture.

Thanks Douglas- some of these details on the fence were to help with wind loads as well.

Thanks Janice. Keep in mind that the before of this project was not usable. There was a wall where the island was located so only 2 people could be in the kitchen at a time.

Would love to, however you would need to relocate to Atlanta. We have another great kitchen project coming up in one week. Can't wait to share with the hometalk community!

Can't wait to see it. The winner of the Ugly Bath contest is getting a new bathroom as well, we will post the progress soon. The paper counter tops and bamboo have been selected...all GREEN!

Different and elegant, it's not very often you see that color cabinet.

I wonder what the deck looks like. That's one deck you won't have to stain.

Sweet. I guess a little pressure wash and sealer every once in a while and you are good to go 50+ years. It looks really nice and low maintenance.

Peace- we are not trying to take work from painters. There are still plenty of interior walls that would need to be painted over time as trends change.

Decks are normally one of those things that take so much maintenance that almost no one can do it right. It's refreshing seeing an deck that can be enjoyed without feeling like it needs to be constantly maintained.

Last weekend, I spent 3 hours washing a trex like deck; the pressure washer uses 3.5 gallons of water a minute. So much waste and for a 'low maintenance' surface. ...»

I've seen the Azek product you told me about at 'The Depot' now. You can trim your whole house in it.

    • Before washing trex-like product, black spots
    • After washing trex-like product, the reverse white spots
    • It takes some serious chemical and pressure to get this clean

Correct- Azek is a better option even though it could cost more upfront.

Lee Anne- I agree. We were going for a specific look in this kitchen. The first round would have been a design that would have fit in a cabin in the Highlands, however they wanted a more transitional flavor since it is in-town. The woods are visible though through the 16' glass door system.
