Basement Painting

Thinking about renting a paint sprayer to do the basement we're finishing. Anyone have advice for those? Do the kind you can rent work okay or is it safer to just roll it?

Never spray painted before but I sure know to use the airless type. It has less over spray than other types of sprayers. Make sure you cover the floors entirely with brown paper and paint your ceiling first!

The odds are heavily in the favor of being safer to roll. Very quickly you can do a lot of good or a lot of damage with a sprayer. If it is a good size room, you can speed things up by using an 18 inch roller, you would just have to get geared up equipment-wise. Also, a lambswool roller cover hold about 3X more paint than a regular synthetic and cleans up a lot easier. It's especially good with primers and ceilings.

Is it block or did you wood frame the walls and hang dry wall. If its block, get a heavy knap roller and have at it. If block, it will soak up alot of paint so it will take a couple of coats

I would roll, there will be a ton of extra work covering everything in plastic and taping it off

Thanks for the input! It's drywall, but empty - so we have to do walls and ceiling, and the cement floor isn't much of a worry. We'll look into getting some good, 18'' rollers, and starting with the ceiling.

Don't forget to prime the drywall or it will soak up alot of your finish paint. You can actually have the primer tinted to work with the color of the finish coat. Just choose your finish color and show it to the paint sales person and he or she will fix you up
