New updated pictures of the deck and 'decked out' and ready for Spring!

Back deck renovation, we wanted to spend @ $2000.00 and wanted to go from SLAB to FAB! Back deck renovation, wanted to spend $2000.00 and wanted to go from SLAB to FAB! Most of the costs involved were the material costs and adding a a couple feet of length of cement to the already existing slab. We used clearance slate from http://www.flooranddecoroutlets.com/ and a palette of flagstone we found on clearance to make a pathway into the yard. The pics are without the furniture cushions and all dolled up for when we use it but you get the idea we also changed the glass table for a rot iron one that works much better and matches all the other furniture.

Really nice, slate wall is great! Also very much like the rails being a different color, gonna use that idea for my decks this spring.

Hi Ana, your new slab and outdoor living space looks amazing. I know you must be thrilled. It appears in the photos that you have quite a bit of space under the deck that could be utilized and weather proofed with an "underdeck" ceiling. Check out the website at www.rainaway.com for lots of information on obtaining a free on-site quote...

Thanks! We considered the underdeck, but after much thought we rarely spend time there. We spend more time on top of the deck and in our Mexican firepit area, we love to be out on a starry night. Will let any friends about you for underdeck solutions though!

Love it! The stained/painted handrails are such a simple touch that makes a huge difference - what did you use (I apologize if you already answered this) thanks!

Wow! Great job. I would love to spend time on your patio. I agree that the slate on the wall is the most creative and outstanding feature. But it's all fabulous.

Love the pattern on the wall with slate...very nice touch. Impressed with the contrast on deck railings....we were thinking of staining our benches and had railings during our deck refurbish. Better add it to the to do list.

Hi Janet, in my pararaph up top I gave some insight. Do you have specific questions. I used slate for the deck but got it at Floor and Decor which has great prices and got the clearance slate. Basically I told them at the store what I was doing and that it was an outdoor project so they helped pick the correct grout and mortar to use, you also need a different kind for the wall so they do not come off and fall off the wall. ...»

They were very helpful, besides that it was lots of manual labor and sweat equity.....ask away and I will try to help in any way.

Thanks Ann, I wasn't sure if it was a staining process made to look like slate! It looks great thanks again!

What mortar did you use? As the patio did not have a moisture barrier under it, did it? How did you deal with moisture when it rains, high humidity etc. under the tiles?

Vanita, We have not had issue with moisture, at the store we explained we needed mortar for an outdoor project and we got mortar that worked well for that, for the wall we got a different kind special for wall tiling.
