White Washing a Brick Wall

We had an exposed brick wall in our master bathroom addition that I was scared to paint. The brick was an ugly orange-y color, so I took the plunge and white washed it. I am so glad I did! I love the way it turned out. We are not finished with the trim on the doorway or the crown molding, but we are getting there.

I love the white wash look, I did the brick on our fire place, using wood stove paint, then I sprayed it in random places with a silver sparkle....It turned out beautiful, especially with a flickering fire going...

With the hardwood floors, wooden beams on the ceiling, and the tub it looks great. Good choice for the antique look.

I hang wallpaper professionally and do a lot of minor faux finishing. I have done this often for people who beg me to paint their brick. I really like old brick but once in awhile, it really is super ugly. Nice to see others trying it.

So you put up a big banner that states "How to Whitewash Brick". Then you the biggest thing you say is I am glad I did it. If you are not going to tell us how you did it what is the point?

Love this, Tracy! I love how it has hints of gray in it, but yet you can still see the texture of the bricks! If I had brick in my house - on a fireplace or on a wall, I would totally be doing this! :) Can't wait to see the finished room!

It's easy to white wash brick, just use brick and masonry paint and use i part paint and i part water. More paint the heavier the wash color the more water the lighter the wash.

I don't like painted brick as a rule, but mine is definitely uglier than hers was!
