Colors that 'run' or' bleed' in the wash

Help! My daughter came home from college, with laundry, of course, and I accidentally put a red&pink area rug into the wash, not knowing that it hadn't been washed before. Now a bunch of her other clothes, blues and grays, have funky red or pink splotches/streaks on them. Is there anything I can do- other than buy Rit dye and color the ruined shirts a new color entirely?

I think if you search the laundry aisle, you will find several products that can be used to remove color when these "oops" moments occur. I believe the Rit dye company even has one such product. Soaking the affected clothes in a solution of warm water and non-chlorine bleach or Oxiclean may also work.

I have used warm water to rewash the clothes and put a couple of "color catchers" in the load. I had to rewash and do the process several times but it worked. I don't remember for sure the brand name of the color catchers but I think it was made by shout. Hope it helps!
