Thanks Ellen! I will try that site - I love Sherwin Williams paint! If anyone has a Sherwin Williams paint color suggestion I would really appreciate it! :D
Heather - another thing to keep in mind when trying to choose colors is that color has "visual" weight. Hmmmm - didn't know that?? It's not something most people consider unless they've probably taken a class or course in color analogy. Anywho . . . pastels & lighter colors look lighter & airy - not as much pigment in them. Your forest green is a very heavy color but then your woods are considered "warm" so if you put grey in that mix your are then working w/conflicting colors. That's

exactly why taupe was suggested - taking into consideration all the wood, plus floor and counter tops and then you go cool again w/stainless. Perhaps adding a creamy white by painting your chairs and the beadboard plus a pale taupe wall color will make things more cohesive in your kitchen. Good luck and hope we haven't confused you!!
Susan!!! Love your comment, thanks for educating me! It really makes sense that the cool tones of grey would fight with the warm tones of the wood! It so ironic that you mention a class or course in color analogy (sounds like you have taken one!) because I am interested in taking a class myself in that area! Did you take one in your area? Are there any you know of online? Or is it recommended to take a color class in person (that would make sense to me). Thanks so much for all your

detailed and helpful info! Do you know of a specific taupe color that works well?
I think I'd do a creamy white on the walls to brighten the space, then maybe the tiles would be okay the way they are or try chalk paint in a similar white on the accent tiles. Then I'd paint your table & chairs a fun chalk paint color but only on the legs of the table and the legs and backs of your chairs...leaving the wood seats and table top to please your husband. Just my two cents...:)
Well thank you right back for the "flowers" - my base knowledge goes back so far in time I'm amazed I still remember half of it. I guess it's from years of just using what I had learned it kind of became second nature. I've had a lot of classes, seminars and direct factory training w/some companies I've worked w/in the past. I'd suggest you go to one of the better paint stores and get a color wheel and also since you're a blogger you might be able to talk them into giving you the big

sample swatch that fans out and has a billion color families in it.
Each paint co. has their own version of colors and they can change from year to year. I'd maybe just google "color analogy" and see what pops up. Too bad we aren't closer together!! I'll be glad to help with any questions you have along the way!!
Susan brings up a good point about the visual weight of color. You also brought up that there is a LOT of wood in this space. You may want to consider breaking it up by painting a portion of your cabinetry as well. . . like the island. Then, maybe just a portion of the dining table and chairs. . . like the legs.
Looking at your stainless steel appliances and vent hood, from this view, it seems to lend

itself to more of a sleek contemporary feeling. My vote would be for the gray tones. SW7016 Mindful Gray would be lovely on the walls and blend nicely with the stainless. Then, do the island and legs 2-3 shades darker (SW7019 Gauntlet Gray). If this appeals to you, I would recommend that you get a couple of the Sh Wms color strips in these tones and make a final decision in your light conditions. That, too will influence the way a color reads against your cabinet tones. You may find that by changing the paint, the back splash will work better and it will compliment your granite tops in a very sophisticated way.
Thanks Carol for your advice! I never actually considered just painting the legs of the table and legs/back of the chairs!! I will seriously consider doing that. I have never worked with chalk paint, so this project might be a fun place to start!
Susan, I wished we lived closer too, it sounds like you have a wealth of knowledge about design/decorating/color! I will definitely see if I can get the big fandecks from a few of the top paint companies....
Wallstreat Sudio, I was actually looking at SW Mindful Gray! It does look so nice. I will have to look at Gauntelt Gray too...thank you so much for the color suggestions!! There are the stainless steel appliances (fridge, stove, wine fridge) to consider, so the Mindful Gray may work well with the stainless color too. I will definetely have to get some test pots to try on the wall before I make a final committment. Thanks so much for your advice!!! I really appreciate it!
