It looks somewhat like phlox, but it's really hard to tell from an unopened flower and without being able to see a leaf. -
Could you post another pic when the flower buds open? -
I will!! I like it so much... but I'm unfamiliar with it. -
It reminds me of the phlox I have growing in my perennial garden...called "Common Purple Phlox." Mine is a tall variety. You can see it here for comparison: http://betweennapsontheporch.net/a-lazy-sund... -
As I suspected, that is Phlox paniculata. Beautiful but prone to powdery mildew. "David" is an excellent white cultivar, and "Eva Cullum" is a good pink. -
Thanks so much for the feedback. I just fell in love with it and found it funny I had never noticed it before! -
I've never had any problem with mildew, thank goodness. I had "David" growing in my garden too...but it seems to have gradually vanished. I'd love to find "Eva Cullum." Sounds beautiful! -
I never see this at the local places. I wonder if I'll have to order it? -
I would be very surprised if your local garden centers did not carry this, FH. It's a staple of perennial gardens. -
Douglas-I have never seen it at any of the local garden centers, but it's a small town. No Lowe's or Home Depot. They all carry about the same thing! -
That's surprising, FH. Usually a good local garden center has a much better (and more locally appropriate) selection than a big box place. It is, however, getting to be late in the season for perennials in most places. I would check in the spring. Or go to a local nursery now and tell them what you're looking for and they can put it on their spring order list. -
Exactly what I was thinking. There is a place about a half hour from here and I bet she might have them, her selection is better if I remember correctly. It's more of a boutique nursery ;)
