If you dip your finger in water it helps spread the caulk easier. Possible to get a nice line without the tape

I like to use a wet shop rag to spread caulk nicely. Next time I will be trying the painter's tape too!

Yes, water is a smooth trick! I just hate it when the caulk gets under my fingernails.

for smoother trick, try water with a little bit of liquid soap.

I use the water trick too.

Becky H, wear disposable gloves. Or just cut a finger off to use and save the rest for next time you're caulking.

Our problem is that we live in an apt complex and the caulking seems to stretch. There aare actual holes in ours . I dont know if they dont push it in enough or they dont put it on thick enough. We have had them do it over 4 times!

Now I need help figuring out how to get the tape on straight. I don't even use painter's tape when I paint because I can't get it on straight.

It's a coincidence but I was just saying to my husband last night that the toilet in one of our 2 bathrooms needs a re-caulking. The idea given for a bathtub is fine but I think "yuck!!" when I think of using the finger -smoothing technique re the toilet. I guess the disposable gloves I have would work...yes??

wipe surface with vinegar first, foe adhesion. Without tape use a small pin hole in your caulk and a damp rag to smooth the caulk and wipe away any excess.
