I read your tutorial on this and also looked up the chalk paint recipe. It all looks easy enough! Love your plant stand and the distressing looks great.
Beautiful and the doilie is the perfect accent for her!! I've saved a couple of recipes for chalk paint and I SWEAR (as in promise) I am goiong to make some and paint something with it!! Yes I am, you just wait and see!! Donna you with me on this??
Absolutely. I think you and I are probably the only two people on Hometalk who haven't tried it! I sure like the idea of making it rather than spending so much money on the name brand kind. I'm headed out to the hot garage now, Susan, well uh, as soon as I have another cup of coffee, check on Isaac, maybe run to Marshall's, maybe stop by an antique shop or two.....
Donna - LOL!! Oh yeah - I do sooooo understand how you operate!! I need to get some 0000 steel wool to make this instant aging recipe for wood I saw (and saved) on here AND I need paste wax to seal the chalk paint. Amazingly enough, I have plaster of Paris from other projects eons ago!!
Being in Texas I sure hope you're not near the gulf coast????
We are close to the Louisiana border and north of Beaumont, TX, so kinda-sorta close to the gulf. I've been thru several hurricanes because I grew up in Corpus Christi, TX. We've had Rita and Ike since moving to Lumberton. There is a high pressure over us and it's keeping Isaac away. So far I've done none of the things I've mentioned above. One of those days where you keep getting sidetracked! I saw the recipe for aging wood too. Looks interesting!
I sure hope you're doing ok Donna and keeping safe.
Count me in as #3 on here who has never used chalk paint. I am really dying too! All I need is the wax to seal the deal on the chalk paint :)
As a matter of fact I've been on this thrifting frenzy ever since I joined this site and saw all the beautiful craftmanship from women (and men) all over. I've always loved working with my

hands and this is my perfect outlet.
I have since managed to get my hands on 3 cribs (for the childrens bench toybox), pallets galore, 3 tables, the 2 windows (for the room screen I'm working on) and lots of marked down wood from home depot, also a display unit for bulbs which is made of wood that I want to enclose to use for my craft room. Now what I want is a table saw...I pretty much have all of the other tools I need. Maybe I'll get that saw for Christmas :)
We only received some gusty winds. No rain. It is just to the east of us. I think the storm knew to stop at the Texas/Louisiana border! Maybe someone told it "don't mess with Texas"! Actually, I think a little bit of northeast Texas may get some rain if the thing ever moves. Seems it's just sitting in one spot.
Sounds like you have scored some good finds! I too have been in a thrifting frenzy since

getting on Hometalk. Ever time I run an errand, I stop by the Goodwill here in Lumberton. I went to a thrift shop yesterday and saw an old crib, the kind that had the screens around it. Was from the early 1900's. Price was $163., out of my thrifting budget but thought it was a good price for such a unique piece.
I have gotten tools for Christmas several times! I have a stash of old windows, shutters, old doors, headboards, etc. When I had my own craft business, I was always finding these things. Now that I'm not working, I'm finally able to do some projects for our home rather than to sell. We sound like kindred spirits. Everyone on Hometalk has a kindred spirit I think!
I think after this weekend our weather will cool down and I can get to work outside and not sweat! I mentioned the table saw to hubby (casually as he was helping me unload my truck of some plywood I got for cheap LOL) and he didn't comment on it...so I left it alone ;)
I would love to get into that stash you have of old windows, doors and shutters! hehe too bad we're on opposite ends of the earth :/

yes, I think we're all kindred spirits here on HT. We understand each other, where my friends have no clue ....
Marg, I know what you mean about friends. The other day, I was riding in a friend's car and we were running an errand together. I spotted two neat looking chairs on the side of the road. I said something about stopping to check them out and she said, "well, you can come back". I bit my tongue not to say "but you don't go back, you have to get roadside stuff while the gettin's good". Soon as I got back in my car I did go back and they were still there. Some people just don't think

like us. They are weird......or are we weird???
Maybe your husband isn't saying anything because he plans to get you one! Does he use the same computer as you? Maybe leave a comment on the screen about wanting a table saw so he will see it! :)
I'm ready for cooler weather too but ours is probably two months away.
Marg - maybe you could use the "subliminal" approach and casually leave ads around where he can't help but see them. Heck I'd tape one to the bathroom mirror, place one in his favorite chair, lay one on top of his dinner plate, how about his pillow when he goes to bed . . . .just sayin!! ;~)
To Sharlotte, my husband goes to Pasadena a lot with his business. It is a small world! Did you live here also or grow up here? You could have brought me a batch of your homemade chalkpaint! :)
To Susan S. - I think Marg should email us her husband's email address and we can bombard him with notes of what Marg really, really wants for Christmas. :)
true Donna...and I was talking about it to my brother yesterday with hubby standing in on the conversation and I mentioned how cheap they were at the Home Depot....I sure hope he's paying attention! hehehe
sorry about your friend though....I find it sad when they don't think like we do LOL I think to myself, wow, what a boring life they must lead, hehe
Yeah Donna BUT . . . . by the same token, if your friend had been of like mind she would have stopped and scooped them up for herself!! The driver is in charge!! The good thing is you got them after all and now you get to try the chalk paint!!

I'm actually on Beaumont visiting my mother. It's really a small world, isn't it! Thanks for dropping by to visit!!
