Mike's Electric shares tips on how to avoid booking emergency electrical repair.
Every year, electrical product malfunctions are associated with injuries and fires in the home.
- Use bulbs of the correct wattage in lamps and ceiling fixtures.

- Get any cracked, frayed or damaged cords replaced immediately after you see them.

- If you notice that some of the outlets or switches in your home are usually warm, this may be a warning sign that there is an unsafe wiring which needs inspection.
- Avoid overloading outlets to minimize overheating. Plug only one high-wattage appliance into each outlet at a time.

- Unattended, plugged-in appliances may pose an unnecessary fire hazard.

- Ensure that your fuses are the right size for the circuit to avoid overheated wiring.

When I moved from Melbourne to Sydney I found a great flat but noticed some circuit problems. A few outlets were warm and my blow drier died shortly after moving in. I found an electrician also from Sydney to fix it.

Told me afterwards about the danger of overloading outlets so I completely agree with what you pointed out. Thanks!
