I like to save the glass jars that pickles and chicken broth and a lot of other things come in. The chicken broth glass jar may be a good size for pins. Have fun!

There is no doubt that the mason jar lends itself to making the project a whole lot easier! I would suggest that you cut a circle of fabric, perhaps using a saucer or small plate as a template, depending on the size of your jar, then ran a gathering-stitch around the outer edge, you should be able to make the pin cushion. Stuff it with some foam chips (or whatever). Once you have got it to the right size, you could then use hot glue to glue it onto the lid of the jar. Another alternative for a pin cushion is to use a pretty old tea cup.

with any jar, take a styrofoam ball cut it in half, hot glue it to a lid. Take fabric cut it in a circle, I usually make a templete out of paper, fold paper in quarters and use a glass to draw your line, this will give you a perfect circle. Cover styrofoam lid and put a rubber band around it to hold the fabric and then tie a ribbon around it.

If you would like the mason jar style without buying an entire set of jars, Classico pasta sauce has a similar style to the mason, the Classico pesto jars are smaller and may be more ideal for your project
