I always love the idea of using complementary colors. My favorite color combo is white/blue. I think it makes any room seem polished and pretty. We painted ours a pale green color of a celery heart ; they called it Dream Dust at Walmart . we used it on one wall as an accent color for the very long room . It helped to pull in the sunlight . It's not to green , It's not to yellow . Goes great with all colors of stuff in the room & Holiday decor changes .the other walls were painted a shade of vanilla & we have a white trim also .

I have the same problem, there is no break in my walls from the living room, kitchen dining room. The only divider is a stairway

Wow I'm jealous! your going to have a blast redoing your home, the bones and structure are amazing there are so many possibilities! Are you leaving the wood on the cabinets and molding the same color they are now?

Oh Wow! I would go with white walls. The cabinets bring in enough color, or paint the cabinets white and keep the gold walls. I think I would convert the butler pantry into a dining room and dining room into another living room or an office/library. I'm not sure about the brick, it sorta looks out of place. Maybe get rid of the pass through and counter and put in a big arch or enclose it and make an entertainment wall for a family room in front of the kitchen island. It looks like a fantastic house with a great opportunity to put your personal stamp on it. Please post finished pictures showing your what you decided to do in these rooms.

Most definitely needs some color. It will compliment everything else. Use your favorite color so you won't get tired of looking at it. I was scared of color, my first time. Then I put both feet forward and did it. Loved it!

Find a color chip of colors you really like. You can paint using a couple of the colors on the color chip and make a transition. For instance, use the lighter color in one room and go down two or three colors on the color chip and paint the other room.
