Water garden flowers for New England Ponds

Selecting flowering plants for NE ponds can be challenging. The little fringe flower is grown in the north as an annual, and has fabulous star shaped fringed (as its name suggests) flowers and mottled lily like leaves. Though the flowers are only about a quarter in size their color really makes them pop.

Nymphoides geminata, some folks call it water fringe others call it a yellow water snowflake. Either way it is a lovely addition to your pond. It is similar to a water lily in growth and habit and if you're lucky enough to live in zone 8 it will grow as a perennial.
